Zayde Wolf’s Single “Higher Than High” Inspires Through Tough Times

Nashville-based ZAYDE WØLF has released a new single titled “Higher Than High.” Check out the song below:

ZAYDE WØLF is the moniker for two-time Grammy nominated producer, songwriter and mixer Dustin Burnett, who was moved to write a song that lifted people from the tragedy the country faced in the past few months. The result was “Higher Than High,” written about pushing through mental and physical breaking points. The song continues to build on his reputation for making music that inspires and motivates to push his fans through barriers and get through difficult times.

The ZAYDE WØLF project came somewhat accidentally, as Burnett himself explains.

“Towards the end of 2015 I was producing some new music as a concept,” Burnett said. “I had these new ideas, but when a couple of singers fell through, I just decided to sing on it myself. I finished the songs, and rather than use my name, I listed, ‘Zayde Wolf,’ as the artist and sent it to a licensing company in Los Angeles called Lyric House. Pretty much immediately, one of the songs was licensed. Jessica Cole, Lyric House’s President responded, ‘So who’s Zayde Wolf, anyway? We need more songs.’ That’s literally the accidental story of how I became Zayde Wolf.”

His debut album “Golden Age” released in 2016 introduced him as a formidable new voice in indie pop and afforded him the opportunity to let his own voice shine after years of helping others to do the same. Music by ZAYDE WØLF’s can be heard regularly on commercials and promos for the NCAA, NFL, NBA, XBOX and has been used in television shows and movie trailers. Burnett has also worked with artists such as Tyrone Wells, Generdyn, Us the Duo, Augustana, Dave Barnes and more. He also wears the hat of co-founder of That Sound, a boutique drum sampling company that has become the go-to for songwriters, producers and mixers looking for unique drums sounds and samples.

Burnett has experienced the power of music firsthand, and he’s made it his mission to share it with the rest of the world.

“The general message of Zayde Wolf is encouraging people,” Burnett said. “These songs are helping me in all these different ways. For a song to start in one place and then move all over the world to people who speak very little English is wild. These people reach out to me daily and say they are impacted by these songs in ways that turn their week around for better, or that the songs lead them to rethink a hard situation… and that’s powerful and humbling to me.”

The video, directed by Chris Viera, scenes flash between the many sides that comprise a woman: insecurity, comparison, liberation, frustration, confidence and beauty. The lyrics in “Battleshade” is a rallying call for all women who have dealt with discrimination and was written by Curtis as a response to her own insecurities about pursuing music. She said, “Remember me. Say you will. I’ll leave a mark. It won’t fade. It’s such a bold statement to make about yourself, but singing those phrases does something in me that makes me feel brave.”

VanWyck’s New Single “An Average Woman” is Brave and Bold

Amsterdam singer-songwriter VanWyck releases her new single “An Average Woman,” the title track off her upcoming moody, indie-folk album due out on January 19 on Maiden Name Records. Check out the song here:

Hauntingly atmospheric and melodious, the songs on “An Average Woman” unravel in a spiral of smoky soulful vocals aching with lyrical precision of stories untold. The album is about women who are visible and hidden, sacrificing and selfish, ordinary and magical, obligated and free. It’s about the mysteries lurking in the everyday and creating your own universe and your own sense of belonging, while stumbling along the way.

The lead single is about being braver, bolder, and sometimes selfish. Written in the past tense, it’s almost like a funeral song, burying the average woman in order for the creative woman to emerge. Accompanied by the award-winning bass player and arranger Reyer Zwart, lyrics and instrumentation intertwine to become a conversational narrative in a gentle dance of ebb and flow.

“Both my grandmothers were strong women (a nurse and a teacher) who came from very humble backgrounds and had to work hard and take care of children,” VanWyck said. “Being creative was a luxury that was often not allowed to them. Being in the foreground was also not something they were allowed to aspire to. One of my grandmothers was very inspirational in making me reach higher and to put all my talents to work. I keep her picture as a young girl on my desktop to remind me of the chances she never had and the way she pushed me to reach higher.”

The Sounds of Ghosts’ New Single “Train to Nowhere” is a Fiddle-Romping Hoot

Americana roots band The Sound of Ghosts released a new single titled “Train To Nowhere” that exemplifies the bands signature style of fiddle-fueled melodies, soaring harmonies and story-telling lyricism from their upcoming release “Delivery and Departure.” Check out the song below:

The Sound of Ghosts are an Americana roots musical collective hailing from Los Angeles, California. The five-piece collective of musicians have crafted a musical experience with unique arrangements and vast variety of influences. A culmination of traditional front porch Americana, folk-laden melodies and vintage rock ’n’ roll, The Sound of Ghosts have succeeded in bringing their own edge to this timeless genre of music. Comprised of James Orbison (vocals, bass), Anna Orbison (vocals, ukulele), Ernesto Rivas (lead guitar), Phoebe Silva (fiddle) and Jon Sarna (drums), they have united to push the boundaries of typical Americana and created an evolving sound demonstrating the diversity of each of their own different musical backgrounds. Included in this are elements of classic rock, musical theatre, country and everything in between.

The Sound of Ghosts formed in memory of the band’s friend Dave Lamb, who passed away too soon from Leukaemia. Lamb headed an acclaimed band Brown Bird with his wife that was named NPR’s folk group of the year. James Orbison was touched and inspired by the impact Lamb had made on not only him, but the community around him. James Orbison fell back into music as a mechanism to cope with his grief, where he consequently rediscovered his passion for writing and playing again. They decided to name their band The Sound of Ghosts, which was the title of Brown Bird’s first album, as a way to honor Lamb and to be constant reminder of his love for music.

The new music is set to be an immersive listening experience and is filled with diverse soundscapes and a multitude of sonic textures. Lead single “Train to Nowhere” is an upbeat folky song with driving guitars and catchy hooks that showcase the band’s signature sound. Accompanied by a powerful trumpet solo, it is assured to get listeners up and dancing. The narrative was built around the ideology of escapism and the importance of adventure. The song symbolizes the journey of self-discovery and introspection.

The Sound of Ghosts have opened for artists such as Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, The Sisterhood and Oingo Boingo. Their music has also been featured in national commercials for major brands such as Yahoo! and Kia. The Sound of Ghosts also won ‘best live performance’ at The Roswell Film Festival. With their growing California following and authentic sound, The Sound of Ghosts are ready for their next musical endeavor with the release of “Delivery and Departure” due fall 2017.
